Airbags from 100% recycled polyester launched
The supplier of automotive safety systems Autoliv, has unveiled airbag cushions made from 100% recycled polyester, offering a significant reduction in the greenhouse gas footprint of airbags.
The development, in partnership with crucial supply chain partners, has seen Autoliv create yarns, fabrics, and cushions, all from 100% recycled polyester, aimed for airbag production. Successful tests of the innovative material have shown the recycled polyester airbag cushion to offer equal safety functionality to a standard polyester airbag, while also cutting GHG emissions by around 50% at the polymer level.
Embracing this innovative recycled material signifies a key stride forward in the commitment of Autoliv, Inc., Auburn Hills, MI/USA, to lessening emissions throughout its product variety. This move will support the company’s goal to reach net-zero GHG emissions within the supply chain by 2040.
